Qur’an & Tajwid
“Tajweed” or “Tajwid” is a very common term in the context of Qur’an recitation. It comes from the Arabic word (تَجْوِيدْ) which linguistically means enhancement or making something outstanding.
In terms of Qur’an reading & recitation, Tajwid is actually a set of linguistic and pronunciation rules used in reciting the Qur’an to recite it in the right way.
Tajwid is one of the most prominent sciences of the Qur’an & Islam. It is a science governed by deep-rooted static rules derived from the oral recitation of the Qur’an. In other simple words, Tajwid can be defined as the art of keeping the tongue from committing a mistake in the recitation of Allah’s words.
When pupils learn to read the Qur’an with Tajwid, they’ll be able to pronounce the letters and words in Qur’anic verses correctly, giving every letter its right in reciting the Qur’an. Additionally, Tajwid adds a beautiful voice to Qur’an recitation.
Character Development
The school uses workbooks and a curriculum developed by The Ghazali Children’s Project, which seeks to introduce honourable qualities through a series of activities and stories tailored specifically for children. The key aims of this curriculum are to support children in:
• their ability to recognise and maintain their innate human dignity
• realising nobility of character
• becoming aware of their true spiritual selves
• becoming self-observant and self-correcting
• living life with humility and in service
